Sam’s puppy training classes very informative and fun . Very professional and we learnt as much as Peppa. Would highly recommend.

We have just completed Sam’s puppy socialisation & training classes with our 5 month old border terrier puppy, who absolutely loved being with the 4 other pups. Sam’s quiet and calm manner meant a nice calm class and we learned an awful lot. We have a puppy who is very happy to meet and walk with dogs of all ages & sizes, & Sam has given us the tools to introduce Lola to new experiences & situations. Can’t recommend Sam highly enough.

Frequently Asked Questions ...

Who will teach me on the puppy course?

The puppy course is lead by head trainer Samantha Teece, Sam is highly qualified and experienced. We also have an experienced assistant who is there to support you in class.

What age are the puppies in class?

Pups are welcome to join class once they are fully vaccinated. Generally pups in class are between 12 weeks and 6 months.

Are vaccinations required?

Yes, a proof of your pups vaccination record card is required upon booking. This can be sent either by email or Whats App.

What if we miss a class?

It is very common for attendees to miss a class, you will still receive a follow up email containing all training exercises covered during the missed session. As with all sessions, at home training videos can be sent over to Sam via Whats App for support and feedback.

Are the classes always in person?

Generally speaking yes, however, in the unlikely event we are unable to deliver the course in person, the session will be delivered via zoom instead.

What can I expect from the socialisation aspect of the course?

This is not off lead playtime and greeting all other pups (although off lead play might be a topic we cover). We teach you what socialisation really is and how to do it properly. Socialisation is something that is naturally taking part all of the time within class. We set our pups up to be confident and resilient in the world in which they live. Each week there are various socialisation activities included such as discovering novel items, sounds and textures. We also cover polite greetings to people and other dogs, along with what to expect at a cafe, vets or groomers. A socialisation booklet is given to you on week one of the course.

Are nervous or reactive puppies suitable?

A priority for us is creating an environment in which your puppy can relax and learn. If you are concerned your puppy may not be suitable for class, please discuss their behaviour and needs with us prior to booking the course. We offer one to one training sessions too which might initially suit your puppy better.

What do I bring?

  • A treat pouch with a variety of high value training treats (for example their kibble mixed in with cheese, cooked chicken, moist treats, pate rolls e.g. JR pate).

  • Flat collar with ID tag (Strictly no prong collars, e-collars or choke chains),

  • A well fitted harness and a standard fixed length lead, 6ft is ideal (no retractable leads)

  • A dog towel (for wet weather), poo bags, fresh water and a bowl

  • If your dog is toy motivated, please do bring their favourite toy

  • For recall sessions please bring a long line (these are available to borrow)

Do you provide refreshments?

Yes hot and cold drinks and biscuits are available free of charge.

How long is the course?

Our puppy course is made up of four sessions, held on Thursday evenings 6.15pm - 7.15pm at St James Church Hall, Barton Under Needwood DE13 8HY  .

Are there further training opportunities after completing the course?

Yes, we have a range of further training opportunities following on from puppy class, this includes one to one or group training for obedience, scent detection and tracking.

Can I bring other family members with me?

Not a problem, we generally put two chairs out per station, additional seating can be provided.
